Everywhere I go it seems like I hear people talking about how fast this summer has flown by! I don't know why this particular summer seemed to go so fast, but I couldn't agree more. Although the weather is still HOT and the beaches are still open, as August approaches, that back to school buzz is in the air. Back to school for me means back to Washington DC, which means I must (VERY SADLY) leave Team SHE!! It seems like only yesterday that I first walked through the Highland Park boutique's doors. It was love at first sight. The store, the clothes, the Team SHE members. Since then, I have enjoyed every day that I have worked here. Getting to work with all the members of Team SHE has been a joy and a privilege. I have learned so much about fashion, customer service, running a business, and countless other daily lessons from the lovely ladies of SHE. I am honored to have been given more and more trust and responsibility as the days went by. It allowed what could have been a normal retail experience to become a valuable life experience. When faced with the question of how I will carry on without my daily dose of SHE, I had no choice but to put on a brave face and start getting creative! So, listen up! I promise to..
1. As self-appointed Team SHE DJ, make good playlists from Washington...you may not see me, but you will still hear me!
2. Visit/ work (/shop!!) whenever I'm in town!!
3. Wear my SHE clothes proudly, and when someone compliments me (because they will...) direct them straight to shopsheboutique.com!!
4. Make tons of purchases of my own from shopsheboutique.com
5. And...most importantly... be a SHE girl forever!!!!
As election day approaches and the streets of Washington become alive with politics, I think I will launch my very own campaign: OPEN A SHE BOUTIQUE --GEORGETOWN!!!!
Until then, thank goodness for the website!!
Happy Shopping everyone!!
xoxo,
Haley
Thursday, July 31, 2008Tuesday, July 15, 2008Welcome!
This is the perfect time of year for SHE to be launching their website, if not for a million reasons, just for one. This time of year is the time that fashion is at its most vibrant state and in the same breath, so is the boutique SHE! This season Team She is coming together to invite you to be a part of our uniquely devised store through a website you'll always want to be connected to.
This season we are using our brainstorming skills to get ideas for all the fall classics. The same brainstorming skills you'd use for say a group project in high school, a class discussion in college, work meetings, or even thinking of new ways to juggle your daily schedules and still find time for one important element of life: self expression. To some, this certain articulateness we have about ourselves only comes in one form (possibly two) the clothes we decide to wear and inevitably, the vibe we radiate as we do so with confidence. So now is the perfect time for brainstorming, the perfect time of year when you start honing all your fashion skills that will essentially create your fall wardrobe even while you're still pulling clothes from your summer inspired closets. This is the time to have fun with what you've got and start adding essentials into the mix! Mid-summer is when every fashion icon begins using the fall palette, playing with colors and fabrics of fall but wearing them as summer accents. It's the time when you as a fashion connoisseur can decide one or two things, whether you are willing to embrace the trends, or whether you'd like to create your own from the age inspired fall ensembles, because we all know, the past is the largest open door to what can be seen in the future of our fashion creations. The thing about fashion is that each year it changes, because we are able to change, we morph and grow and so does the inspiration and ideas for style. The same goes for SHE, we remain viable as our ability lies in our growing aspirations and our capability to embrace all the fashion ideas with a creative and editing eye. What I personally won't be hiding away in my closet come fall are my recently purchased summer dresses that I can wear now with flats or heels, but still remain on the cusp of the new fashions, as I pair it with tights and tall boots that I'll grab from our wonderfully packed SHE closet! GREAT Employees
I was in your store this past sunday around 6pm. Patrick and Alicia(I think that's her name ) were working at the time. I was greeted warmly upon entering your store. I was coming from the beach and looking a little rough. But to Alicia, it made no difference. I asked about the sale items and she quickly directed me to some super cute summer items. Patrick popped out and quickly made wonderful, helpful, GENUINE conversation with me. They both were sooooo helpful, nonjudgmental, and non pushy. I just had such a wonderful experience I thought i needed to share this with the owners. I am in the service industry myself and i know at the end of the day you just want to get the heck outta there So their enthusiasm really impressed me I ll definitely be back Even if it s just to say hello to those two Thanks Again Allison
Monday, July 14, 2008Greetings from Milano!!
Ciao Bella!
Just dropping in a quick update from Milan... everything is absolutely amazing. In addition to loving every person I've met and really enjoying this place to its fullest extent, I can't get enough of the school. My classes are so interesting and I'm learning so much... I can't imagine finding an experience/education exactly like this anywhere in the States. The professors have so much knowledge and experience- fashion isn't just something they work in, but its an intrinsic quality of the mindset and lifestyle here in Milan. It's so neat. My classes are in Fashion Trends (history and philosophy of style/fashion), Tailoring & Fashion Pattern Making (learning skills/techniques for design), Fashion Drawing, and then Fashion Communication and Marketing. We are learning such crazy techniques for fashion drawing though, like how to show the different textures of different fabrics (sequins, tweed, boucle, cotton jersey, denim... everything) perfectly on paper so you can really see how the clothes wear on a person just by looking at the drawing (which almost looks like a photograph when you follow the technique properly!). I'm actually doing pretty well so far with the drawing - good news! In tailoring/pattern-making, our final assignment is to select a piece from the collection of any designer, and the professor is going to show each of us how to make our own pattern just from a picture of the garment. I still cant conceive how I could possibly re-create the pattern of a Binetti dress or a Dior jacket, but given how much I've gained in the past week, who knows what could happen in the next two! Aside from school, everything is wonderful. Oh! I almost forgot - I met a guy earlier in the week who works for Vogue Italia in the fashion accessories department and I may be going to shadow/"intern" for an afternoon this week just to see what it's like there - if my teacher gives me the "ok". That would be neat though. I've been thinking of Team SHE often, missing the store, and hoping all is well. Oh, and speaking of SHE, I've been sporting pretty much all of my (weather-appropriate) SHE wardrobe on a daily basis and I can't get enough compliments on every piece and on the selection our store seems to have to offer. So far, we have requests for boutiques in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Sophia, Bulgaria (the capital); and then also Philadelphia, Boston, Miami, and San Francisco. I hope business is as good as the word of mouth on the streets suggests. Give me a quick little update if you get a chance. Anyhow, I've kept you long enough - just wanted to give you the 411 and let you know all is well... fabulous. Ciao! Emily
